[DIGITAL Business Africa] \u2013<\/strong> Starlink<\/a> is rapidly expanding across the African continent. Since its arrival in Nigeria in 2023, SpaceX\u2019s satellite Internet service has gradually secured authorizations in several parts of the continent.<\/p>\n

As of October 2026, Starlink has already been commercially launched in 30 African markets. However, the regulatory situation is not uniform: Senegal, for example, is now subject to a temporary suspension of its licence, while in some markets such as Nigeria and Malawi, new Residential orders are temporarily limited.<\/p>\n

For individuals and businesses wishing to subscribe, Digital Business Africa provides an overview of the African countries concerned, the plans available, their monthly prices, and the main authorization or launch dates.<\/p>\n

30 African markets already opened to Starlink, but their status may change<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On its official map, Starlink distinguishes between areas where the service is available and those that are still awaiting coverage or regulatory approval. The company recommends entering the exact service address before placing any order, as availability, plans and prices may vary from one area to another.<\/p>\n

Another important point: the date of a \u201cStarlink launch\u201d is not always the same as the date on which a licence is granted. The regulator or public authority issues the licence; Starlink may then launch its service several weeks or months later.<\/p>\n

The table below focuses on the consumer-facing Residential and Roam plans, which are particularly relevant to individual users. Professional offers such as Local Priority, Global Priority, Maritime and Aviation are not detailed here.<\/p>\n

The prices listed above are monthly service fees and do not necessarily include the cost of the kit, shipping fees, taxes, possible regulatory charges or temporary promotions.<\/p>\n

Starlink warns that prices and plans may vary by region, available capacity, local regulations, and even the customer\u2019s precise address. For this reason, whenever Starlink does not publicly display a fixed price, Digital Business Africa has deliberately indicated \u201cprice depends on address\u201d<\/strong> rather than using figures from resellers or third-party websites. Digital Business Africa therefore encourages customers to enter their address in order to see the applicable price for their service location.<\/p>\n

How to officially subscribe to Starlink<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The process should be completed directly with Starlink or through an expressly authorized reseller. For the referral programme presented in this article, it is particularly important to purchase directly through Starlink.com: Starlink specifies that kits purchased from a reseller or retailer, or transferred from another account, are not eligible for referral credit.<\/p>\n

    Starlink: how to get one month of service free<\/strong><\/p>\n

    As indicated above, Starlink offers an official referral programme in most markets where its service is available. A new customer who orders through an eligible referral link can receive one month of service free of charge. The credit is applied to the second month of the subscription.<\/p>\n

    The first month remains payable. The new customer must sign up through the referral link<\/a> and purchase Starlink directly from the official Starlink website.<\/p>\n

    Transparency:<\/strong> The link above<\/a> is a referral link. If an eligible new customer subscribes to Starlink through this link and meets the programme requirements, the customer receives the benefit offered by Starlink and the owner of the referral link may also receive a reward. This reward does not add any additional cost to the new customer\u2019s bill.<\/p>\n

    Important: not all Roam plans necessarily qualify for the free month<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    This is an important point. According to the terms currently published by Starlink, plans eligible for referral credit include Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max, as well as Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited.<\/p>\n

    However, the Roam 50GB plan does not currently appear on Starlink\u2019s published list of eligible plans. Customers interested in receiving the free month should therefore make sure that the plan offered to them is eligible before completing their order.<\/p>\n

    Another precaution:<\/strong> referral programme conditions may vary by country. In some regional versions of the programme, referrals must take place within the same country. Eligibility for the free month must therefore be confirmed by Starlink when the order is placed.<\/p>\n

    Can Starlink Roam be used in an African country where Starlink is not authorised?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The technical ability to receive the signal does not mean that using the service is legally authorised in a particular country.<\/p>\n

    Since updating its roaming policy in 2026, Starlink has further restricted international use: Roam Unlimited allows up to 30 days of use outside the country where the account is registered, while other Roam plans are intended for use in the account\u2019s country of origin. National regulatory restrictions continue to apply.<\/p>\n

    This distinction is particularly important in African markets where Starlink has not yet obtained the necessary authorizations.<\/p>\n

    What about Cameroon?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Cameroon is not among the African markets where Starlink can currently be legally commercialized.<\/p>\n

    Cameroon Customs has reiterated that Starlink has technically been prohibited in the country since April 2024 and that equipment imported without authorization may be seized. In December 2025, the authorities again announced the seizure of several Starlink kits in Nkometou, in Cameroon\u2019s Centre Region.<\/p>\n

    The regulatory process has nevertheless progressed. A draft concession agreement and the specifications for Starlink Cameroon have been prepared and submitted to the competent authorities. To date, Starlink has not yet concluded a final agreement.<\/p>\n

    An African expansion likely to continue<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The move from zero commercial African markets in 2022 to a presence in 30 markets where Starlink has already launched highlights the importance Africa now holds in Starlink\u2019s international strategy.<\/p>\n

    But the map remains highly uneven. Several major African markets still lack an official commercial launch, while in countries where Starlink is already available, authorities impose licensing requirements, spectrum-use conditions, terminal homologation rules and, in some cases, specific requirements relating to security or digital sovereignty.<\/p>\n

    For consumers, the safest rule therefore remains simple: check your country and address on Starlink\u2019s official map, order directly from Starlink through our referral link or from an authorised distributor, and do not confuse the technical availability of the satellite signal with the legal authorisation to use the service.<\/p>\n

    Starlink currently says it is available in more than 150 countries, territories and other markets worldwide.<\/p>\n
